Skip to main contentScript – Final draft FADE IN:
OPENING TITLES APPEAR ONSCREEN DURING FIRST SCENE
EXT. RURAL PATH – MORNING
A cold, sad morning in comfortable clothes, hoodie up hiding face for now
(Amelia), 16-17 y/o student, comes to a pause and tugs her hoodie down, rugged clothing -> implication of loneliness and unkemptness
The Sick - lyrics (VOICEOVER)
I hope your daddy’s done hating you.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,
Zoom in on her face, specifically her eyes and her mouth, showing how oddly still and “dead” they are.
CUT TO:
EXT. isolated alley way – noon
(Jay), dressed in casual clothes, leaning against wall smoking – being spoken to by her friend, trying to convince her to stop but her attention is elsewhere. (Over the shoulder shot)
The Sick - Lyrics (VOICEOVER)
You think that shit you smoke saves you?
FRIEND (muffled)
You need to stop- what’s your issue!? Hello..? Are you even listening?
The sick - Lyrics (VOICEOVER)
But it won’t between you and me,
CUT TO:
Close up in eyes shutting then cut to open eye shot.
Jay to Amelia eyes.
The Sick – Lyrics (VOICEOVER)
And I think a part of you hated me, so all of me was surviving you.
CUT TO:
EXT. empty bedroom
JAY or AMELIA in the depths of the room struggling by themselves -> also not seeking help.
The Sick – Lyrics (VOICEOVER)
There’s nothing better I could be,
I love the sick because I have to
Amelia/Jay approaches the mirror, zoom in to face in the mirror looking back at each other, two things happening at the same time (they cannot actually see eachother)
The Sick – Lyrics (VOICEOVER)
You were wrong for what you did to me-
Amelia / Jay, walking behind a group -> isolation from
group, slowly being ostracised.
The Sick – Lyrics (VOICEOVER)
But I was sick for kinda liking it-
Front shot of her in between the shoulders, focusing on her expression -> finding comfort in her own shadows
The Sick – Lyrics (VOICEOVER)
Oh, it all goes bad eventually
She’s beginning to lose her friends, as she is no longer trying anymore.
Flashback to younger selves – olden days filter thing to show its in the past – Amelia and Jay messing around together in a park/skate park
I’ve loved the sick since I knew how to breathe
I’m pretty sure that you’re using again
Oh, you don’t know what that does to me
Well, I guess I could never save you
Amelia and Jay give each other matching lighters which the two are seen fiddling with throughout the rest of the MV
I’ve loved the sick since I knew how to breathe
Since I knew how to-
No longer with that olden day filter – Amelia and Jay seen fighting (arguing) with each other – matching with the lyrics – completely opposing the earlier scene of the two playing around together. -> physical fight?
I hope you settle with that girl you love
And get that shitty job I know you need
I think that she might be enough to save you
And I’m sorry that that want me
Amelia and Jay seen in two different rooms after the fight – ‘sitting back to back’ but with a wall between them – regretful and upset with almost a grey background behind us and then on Jays side a white light/gradient fades in while Amelias side has a black light/gradient
But I think a part of you hated me
So, all of me was surviving you
There is nothing better I could be
I love the sick because I have to
(I have to, I have to)
Jay is getting professional help, and trying to mentally get healthy, juxtaposing with Amelia being ‘shouted’ at by her parents and then scenes after where Amelia is isolating herself with maybe a “mirage” of Jay next to here, constant flash shots almost as though she’s there even though she isn’t.
You were wrong for what you did to me
But it all goes bad eventually
I’ve loved the sick since I knew how to breathe
I’m pretty sure that you’re using again
Oh, you don’t know what that does to me
Well, I guess I could never save you
I’ve loved the sick since I knew how to breathe
Someone (therapist) says “you need to get rid of the memories” and Jay is seen fiddling with a lighter.
Since I knew how to-
Jay sets things on fire but the focal point is the trousers, outdoors.
Well, your pants are on fucking fire
Amelia is holding a lighter in front of the mirror in a black room – only the light of the fire to light up their face but then the lighter snaps shut into darkness.
And you use them like a goddamn lighter
Camera pans down from the night sky onto Jay (darkness from last scene turns into the night sky), where people have found her with the burnt trousers and almost comfort her.
And you say it’s not my fault
But I don’t believe you at all
Amelia alone in the dark room slumped against the wall, faint light from somewhere – this will happen in the dorms where she can see a razor on the bathroom counter (cutting implied)
If you loved me, then why did you never call?
Shots flick back and forth between Jay getting help and Amelia suffering alone, Jay with a lighter background, Amelia in a darker background. (Neutral vs bedroom setting)
You were wrong, you were wrong
You were wrong, you were wrong
You were wrong, you were wrong
You were wrong, you were wrong
Amelia takes her own life, slumped against a wall. (sh implied and suicide) . Jay and/or others run into the room to find Amelia dead.
Piece of paper with the lyrics written can be seen now tainted with blood -> written by Amelia, released by Jay in her honour
But I was sick
FADE TO BLACK
(Suicide audio begins to play: https://open.spotify.com/track/1slWhO9FYMHp4mSFIxnCwt?si=admnX5rQS0KCCeZ6AldM8w) possibly overlapping the last lyrics
Black out screen to telling audience to not be afraid to ask for help if you’re struggling.
